Engelbrekt

We named our cottage Engelbrekt because it was moved to Kynakulle from Engelbrektsgatan (Engelbrekt Street) in Falun in the 1960s when the whole block was about to be torn down.

Engelbrekt is likely to have been built in the early 17th century and was home to two families. They had one room each, and a shared a fireplace and a stove situated right between the two rooms.

Engelbrekt Street in Falun is not far from Falu copper mine where many of the Falu people made their income. Engelbrekt has, through centuries, been home of many mine workers and their families.

Our aim when renovating the cottage has been to keep its old style and capture that atmosphere. The kitchen wallpaper is a new production of an old wallpaper that was found in an old cottage that belonged to farm Främsbacka just outside Falun. The kitchen has a stove and oven, fridge and freezer, kettle, coffee maker and kitchen utensils enough for six people. The room has three beds, of which one is a bunk bed. The cottage has a bathroom with a toilet and “Stockholmsdusch”,which is a shower that has to be folded back when not being used.

The cottage is just 20 metres from the lake, where guests have access to their own bridge deck and a small rowing boat. On the large lawn there is outside furniture and a BBQ.
